How Does Orthodontic Treatment Work?
Orthodontic treatment at BUCCA Santé Dentaire is divided into two main categories: orthopedic treatments and teeth alignment treatments using clear aligners.
Orthopedic treatments consist of correcting various skeletal development problems, for example: a palate that is too narrow or a lower jaw that is too far back. Diagnosing and correcting these problems early on helps encourage normal growth.
Teeth alignment is possible with invisible retainers (Invisalign). Thanks to the 3D imaging system, Dr. Josée Loignon will be able to personalize your treatment.
Our dental clinic aims to prevent developmental problems, promote the growth of a healthy jaw and improve the self-esteem of our patients through orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
With Invisalign clear aligners, your teeth are gradually straightened using a series of clear plastic aligners, individually customized and changed weekly.
Invisalign clear aligners offer a convenience factor – they are removable for when you'd prefer no one know that you are straightening your teeth.
Similar in appearance to custom whitening trays, they are easy to insert. You can even remove them to eat, drink, brush and floss!

At what age should you start orthodontic treatment?
It is recommended to bring your child in for a consultation between the ages of seven and eight. At this age, our dentists can properly assess how your child's teeth are developing.
Early intervention allows, among other things, to take advantage of growth to maximize the benefits of orthodontic treatment. Treating alignment issues early can prevent complex misalignments and may reduce the need for jaw surgery in the future.

Does it hurt to wear braces?
Pain tolerance is very different from person to person. Discomfort may be felt initially but should gradually fade away as your teeth and gums get used to the braces.
Pain relievers such as Tylenol can help minimize any discomfort.

When should I stop wearing my retainer?
There are two categories of retainers, fixed retainers and removable retainers.
Fixed retainers are permanent lingual wires, that are glued to the back of the teeth.
Removable retainers are devices worn primarily while you sleep. The amount of time you will need to wear your retainer will depend on the extent to which your teeth were shifted. That being said, our teeth continually shift throughout our lives, so it is best to keep wearing your retainer.
